"Vital
Signs" -- Indicators and Benchmarks Report for the New Century Region
The Community Indicators Program, called "Vital
Signs", was developed as a tool to help citizens and governments in the New Century
Region better understand their community, set priorities and goals, develop action plans,
and track progress toward their visions. Good indicator programs illuminate the
linkages among the economic, environmental, and social perspectives, and present a more
complete picture of life in a community. They enable citizens to make more informed
decisions and provide them with the ability to assure accountability for the
results. Similar programs have been adopted by more than 150 dynamic, progressive
localities throughout the country.

1997
Regional Economic Study
The New Century Council commissioned economist Bill Fruth to conduct a
required economic analysis in 1997. Economic data is generally gathered and analyzed
at the Count and MSA levels. It is believed that this report represents the first
attempt to aggrogate economic data for a multi-county region.
