Leadership Vision
The New Century Region is among the most
desirable places in the world to live & work.
Leadership Strategies
Overall Strategies
Create a positive
regional identity that draws the region together to establish a "can do
attitude" and focuses on each of us to recognize a new sense of teamwork between
business, government and citizens, and that allows us to position our unique qualities to
the world.
Develop a proactive,
long-term advocacy program directed at area elected officials (local, state and federal)
designed to represent the region's best interests in pursuing the accomplishment of the
New Century Region's vision, its elements and its constituents.
Employ government
relations specialists from the region to work with our local, state and federal elected
officials to advance our regional agenda.
Recognize that higher
education is one of the region's largest industries and that 20% of all full-time college
students in the Commonwealth are educated in the New Century Region. The New Century
Regional Council and the New Century Regional Economic Development Council should join
with other interested groups to lead the effort to assure adequate funding for higher
education.
Conduct an annual New
Century Summit which would bring together area legislators to meet with business,
government and civic leaders to discuss key legislative issues prior to the convening of
the General Assembly each year.
Create a Regional
Leadership Development Program that regularly provides the opportunity for young leaders
to gain knowledge of the region's needs, relationship with the world, and management
skills.
Create a method for
The New Century Council to communicate with citizens on a regular basis to keep them
informed, involved and interested. Establish an annual report of the New Century Region to
communicate to citizens the progress we have made in achieving our visions.
Realign the coverage
areas for regional offices of state agencies to conform to the boundaries of the New
Century Region.
